As we begin the spring training season, it’s important to keep in mind that the start of the high school and college season is right around the corner. With the start of both of these seasons, we will slowly begin to see the top draft prospects for the 2023 MLB draft begin their seasons. The college and high school seasons are not only a time to showcase the upcoming talent, but are also a focus point of where draft stock can rise and fall.
This year, we are blessed with a great group of outfield prospects. Some of these prospects include left-handed slugger Max Clark, base running wizard Enrique Bradfield Jr., Gators talented outfielder Wyatt Langford, LSU 5-tool player Dylan Crews, and high school power bat Walker Jenkins.
Max Clark and Walker Jenkins are the one-two punch of well rounded high school bats, both being a part of team USA. The Indiana native, Max Clark, is known for his well rounded bat, as well as his defensive capabilities. The power-hitting lefty Jenkins is widely regarded as the best home run threat in the draft, earning a 60-grade power from MLB Pipeline. Clark and Jenkins are both must watch high school bats and should be a thrill to watch this summer.
With as great as the high school outfielders project, the college bats definitely outdo them. Firstly, we have the consensus number-one overall prospect Dylan Crews. Crews attends LSU and plays for team USA, playing wonderfully in both places. Crews is the most well rounded player in the draft being able to hit for power, contact, and play multiple positions. Crews’ hit tool got an overall 60 grade from MLB Pipeline. Base running expert Enrique Bradfield also is a notable well rounded college name. Bradfield is well known for his ability to be a great baserunner getting an 80 grade on his run ability. Bradfield also has great contact skills that should get him many hits at the pro level. Gators outfielder Wyatt Langford is another top college outfielder, getting a 65 grade power tool from MLB Pipeline. I project Langford to be a 30+ homer bat at the college level. All of these college hitters should be taken seriously and likely will all be taken in the first 10 picks of the 2023 MLB draft.
