For every young baseball player the dream is to one day make the Major Leagues. Players can come from all over and have many different stories of how they got there. Some make it when they’re 20 years old, others when they’re in their late 20s, but the dream remains the same. For 33 year old Drew Maggi, his dream is about to come true.

Drew Maggi was drafted in 2010 to the Pirates organization as in infielder. As a later round pick, the odds were already against him to make the MLB. Maggi worked his way up the ranks, and made it up to AA Altoona where he would spend three seasons with them, earning an all star spot in 2014. Maggi would eventually end up being cut the following season, and now he looked to continue his baseball journey.

The next stop came only two days after the Pirates released him, the LA Angels. Maggi would spend the year in AA with them as well, and earned another all star bid. He was let go at the end of the season, and once again he was looking for a new place to call home.

Drew wouldn’t have to look too far as the other LA team, the Dodgers, took a chance on him and sent him to AAA for the first time in his career. He would split between AAA and AA in 2016,  as well as getting his third straight all star selection in AA as well. Maggi would be brought back in the offseason, and this time around he stuck with the AAA squad. He would not be resigned in the offseason.

2018 would have the infielder joining the Cleveland Guardians organization, where he’d spend the entirety of that season in AAA. He would follow up by joining the Minnesota Twins in 2019, 2020, and 2021 where he found a home for himself as a role player and a leader to the young guys in AAA St.Paul.

Minnesota elected not to bring him back and he decided to head back to the state of Pennsylvania and join the Philadelphia Phillies in 2022. Maggi would then be traded on August 3, 2022 to who else but the team that drafted him. He was coming home.

Back where he belongs, Maggi proved he should be kept by the organization as they elected to keep him in the offseason and invite him to spring training for the 2023 campaign. Not only did he impress, but he was one of the final roster cuts before the season began. Maggi was sent to AA Altoona to go full circle to start 2023, due to a very crowded infield in AAA Indianapolis. And now after all his hard work, and moving from place to place, team to team, grinding his way through the minor leagues, Drew Maggi is a major leaguer. Over 1150 games, 3,846 at bats, 978 hits, and  355 runs batted just shows how hard he has worked to get to this point. Check out his incredibly emotional first at bat below.

Congratulations to Drew on all his hard work up to this point and we cannot wait to see what he can do with this opportunity.
